She looked at Jannike, "you figure you can climb those walls?"

Jannike walked slowly around the model as Meg brought up the hologram, her face set in a vague frown of concentration. "If it's just the wall we need to worry about, sure," she nodded. "The climb's not the hard part if you have the gear. Getting past patrols and security systems is usually the tricky bit - any intel on cameras, motion sensors, electrified walls, other fun things like that?"

"And why do we need to climb the walls if we have an invitation?"

Curly seemed uncertain, "Well, I thought better to have someone sneaky no one knew about."

Meg interceded, "No cameras, nothing technical. Probably doesn't even have electric lights. It exists in different places, different times... so.." She looked around, "Look, I can't explain it; it just one of several nexus. It's like shiny as silver to go to one. I never thought.."

"Wait." said Janet, "You're Zuang Li, the people with the black fireflies that kidnap people never to be seen again, Zuang Li?"

"We're going to rescue our people." said Curly. "Not taking a tour, it's not archeology."

"I know." said Meg, holding her irritation in check. Turned to Janet, "and that's a myth. We're part of the government, but separate."

"I'm not sure which part is the part I don't like." said Janet.

"Soooo, Majordomo, Luke, Meg and I will go in the front door. Jannike will sneak in, Janet will be with the ship." Curly's tail started slowly wagging, she was a little more relaxed now.

"Ready to swoop in with the exciting rescue at the highest tower. Sure..." It was hard to tell if she was being cynical or not.

"Exactly." Curly's tone took a definate sudden sharpness, "We find Barto and Pepper and escape." Curly's tail started slowly wagging, she was a little more relaxed now. And maybe excited, Luke (and others) could feel or smell . . . something...

Luke leaned forwards to get a good look of the 3D castle image, but other than that he just sat back and listened to the plan unfold.

At the mention of a party, he looked up expecting to see Adriana Lucy pop in already done up to the nines in anticipation - but she wasn't there. Adriana had been keeping her distance from Luke since they'd left the ghost ship and its alternate universe wish fulfillment daydreams. But her absence now seemed odd. For a brief moment Luke zoned out of the plan discussion, contemplating how angry or upset Adriana must be for her to not show up amid talks of a party.

Something in the discussion caught his attention and Luke was listening once again. Meg was from some kind of secret branch of the government - interesting. The name Zuang Li sounded familiar, but he couldn't say for sure if he'd actually heard it before, or if he had where. The black firefly sounded like something he should know, but he still couldn't place it in his memory.

He noticed Curly seem uncertain about her plan, and then watched as she became more assertive. He had gotten used to seeing her in her feline form now; it didn't seem quite so off-putting. In fact, looking at her now as a confident leader, she was quite attractive. He tried not to gaze at her tail but it was a touch mesmerising... and that smell...

"What kind of party is this?" he asked with a tone of skepticism he hadn't quite intended. Someone had already made the point that it was likely a trap, and the fact that it was being held in some ever-changing dimension didn't fill Luke with much confidence.

"For Hunters." Major Domo passed over the invitation that Meg had produced. It was not specific.

Jannike didn't take her eyes from the 3-D model as the others talked. "So, likely no electronic security systems, because of whatever supernatural interference this place is generating," she noted aloud. She didn't seem particularly bothered by that observation; her tone was more that of a person taking mental notes. "What about comms? This is a large complex with thick stone walls; without an internal floor plan or better intel on the location of the people we're trying to extract, without comms or line of sight we'll have problems coordinating between teams if we divide our forces."

She kept right on studying the model as Luke asked about the party itself, crouching down at one of the corners and looking up at the walls at an angle, much like a golfer lining up a tricky putt. When the invitation appeared, she abruptly turned to read over Luke's shoulder... aloud. Quietly, without inflection or any particular urgency, but aloud.

And then she went right back to looking at the castle again, circling a quarter-turn further clockwise before crouching down to examine the walls from another corner. "So who exactly is this person hosting?" she asked in a conversational tone. "A hunter? If there are no security systems, are there guards - and if so, are they viable targets from the outset or only if the mission goes sideways? Would we expect them to be human, djinn, or something else? The invitation itself is broad enough that predicting the appropriate type of weaponry becomes problematic... silver, cold iron, steel, fire, holy water, holly stakes... it sounds like we'll need to carry in a little of everything, plus climbing gear..."

Luke accepted the invitation and began to read it when Jannike read it aloud. He hadn't expected her voice from over his shoulder and it almost made him jump. When she was done, he read it again himself - silently - before handing it back to Meg. "Neat."

He sat back and listened to Jannike: her questions were similar to what he was wondering. As for weapons, "At least it sounds like bringing them in won't be a problem?" he replied, sort of asking if the others had gotten the same impression. "I mean if it's all hunters I expect everyone will be packing." On second thought, Luke realised that might not actually be a good thing.

"Seems like a pretty ballsy demon, to be holed up somewhere there's going to be a lot of people - uh, beings - who make it their mission to hunt demons.”

"Right." Curly nodded. "So, I'll leave it to you Jannike, you'd know better.. .if you should sneak in or come through the front door."

Majordomo, "We do have a rather extensive array of weapons, some not so obvious. All the usual affects and source materiel: Silver daggers, dead man's blood tipped darts... Care to see..." He motioned back to aft cargo deck."

Meg Master replied to Luke, "Not just demons. This Angelicus, he's ... collected all sort of non-human entities. And I'm sure what we should do about it... "

"Wait," said Curly, "you mean it .. a zoo?"

"Yes." said Meg. "And I'm thinking we're invited to walk right in the cage."

....

<Plenty to take along... I'm going to open up the arrival at Falkenstein... any more business for on board? Please continue.... no hurry..>

Luke didn't have a large array of weaponry, either usual or supernatural. In fact, it took him longer to style his hair into the perfect messy look than it did to load up his pockets with a few small blades of different metals and his variety of shot-gun shells. He had helped himself to some of Nancy Nox's stash though, specifically taking things he knew how to use (dead man's blood for a vampire; lamb's blood on silver for anymore djinns) and leaving anything he didn't recognise to the others. He figured if he wasn't sure how to use a weapon, there was no point in carrying it.

He still hadn't seen or heard from Adriana Lucy. He was starting to get a little bit worried, but on the other hand - where could she go? Whenever she was ready she'd reappear to annoy him.

Dressed in a pair of jeans, another rock t-shirt and his favourite, slightly battle-scarred black leather jacket, Luke wandered through the ship to find the others and see if they were ready to go. He did feel a little under-dressed, thinking about Jannike and Meg's body armor. When he found one (or both) of them, he joked around, pulling a mock-model pose, "Think I'm dressed okay? Hard to know just what to wear to a demonic zoo party in a castle that constantly changes dimensions." He grinned and waggled his eyebrows a bit, tossing his head in further jest.

"Hard to go wrong with the leather jacket," Jannike replied as she made her soundless reappearance in the corridor after returning to her own quarters to change. She answered the rhetorical question entirely seriously... and rather than the tactical armor she'd worn on the shipboard mission, she wore a nicely-accessorized, surprisingly girly version of exactly what Luke was wearing. "Casual enough for a college campus, dressy enough for a night club, moderate stopping power versus most edged weapons... at least if you know where to shop."

She then proceeded to take Majordomo up on his offer to supplement her weaponry; for this mission, consisting entirely of small blades which vanish in rather startling quantities, considering how tight the midriff shirt beneath the jacket looked in all the appropriate places.

Jannike, Curly, Luke, Majordomo and Meg continue here.
