8/3/10 Andrew’s eyes shot open, and he quickly sat up, almost forgetting where he was. It was only a moment later did he realize his hand had gone under the pillow. As though by reflex, he had immediately reached for his gun. Andrew slid his hand out and relaxed, exhaling a deep breath. Still feeling as though he were half asleep, he realized he couldn`t remember the last time he had slept so soundly. He felt refreshed, rejuvenated, better than he had in a long time. Andrew smiled lightly then, knowing a big part of it was because of Adria. What a night... He looked next to him on the bed. It was empty. Strange. Andrew reached for his watch beside him. It was late, at least for him it was. He hardly slept more than four to five hours a night at best. ``Niou-fun,`` he said aloud, glaring at the watch. He really must have had good sleep. Still stunned by the unusual fact, Andrew stood up, got himself a towel, and made his way to a shower. |

8/3/10 In the meantime... A message was left at Andrew's Cortex address. A very interesting one. And it waited for him to answer. *Sinner... don't rush to answer it now... you can whenever. |

8/4/10 Pimps are notoriously slow on the uptake. "You're not getting the picture here Delano. Let me speak slower and in simpler words. I'm the Feds. I'm one of the guys taking Ink down. He's done. Any higher than that, who knows. But my collector job is open as soon as this business with the Butcher is over. That leave a lot of room for you to move up. Cooperate and you'll be walking the district to make a move, don't and you're going to lock up for obstruction. You can plead your case out in a couple weeks." I looked at him and cocked my head. Being cocky is fine, but hopefully he'd play. If not, then the cuffs and I'd roust them out myself. "Dohng Mah?" |

Collector of Lower Midtown

8/7/10 "Dohng Mah?" Delano looked at Cooper and thought for a bit. If this guy did leave his Collector position open, he might have a chance to move up if he played it right. But he wasn't stupid. "I don't know if you understand the depth that the Boss' influence goes here. He and Ink are tight," Delano said softly, while looking around a bit, making sure no one was watching. "Moving up would be a right fine thing, but you don't know what Ink can do to a body. I can't help you until I know that he is in custody for sure. I'm not stupid. I don't want to end up at the end of Ink's knife, gutted like a fish." He looked around a bit. "And I can't roust the girls either," he explained further. "When it comes to the Boss, there are more folks in the pot there that are just as dangerous. He has folks that could slide a blade through you rendering you dead in just a few moments. Go through you like you were butter. I'm just here to do my job. I collect the rent and professional fees, try to keep my girls as safe as I can and on the side, I get some free sex from my choice of whores. "Rousting my whole route could spook some of the longer time clients or those just looking to slum. It is bad for business. Bad business makes folks above me worry that I'm not doing my job. I can't have that. I'm not looking to rock the boat or end up with my guts on the ground next to me. "So if you wanna go rousting folks, you'll have to do it hovel by hovel... quietly." |

8/7/10 Wrong choice. I took out my pistol and gripped him by the scruff of his neck. "No risk. No reward." I turned him around and pushed him up against the wall. "You are hereby bound by law for interferring with an official Alliance Federal Investigation and Obstruction in Implementation of Federal Measures for the Public Safety." As I slipped the cuffs on him, "I'll be sure to let everyone know that it was you that refused to help catch the Butcher, because another day or two of him on the loose and the District is going to be empty anyway. The lid's about to blow when the public gets wind, and Delano will be top of the list of the humps that didn't want to do anything about it." I pushed him out into the street, so everyone could get a good view. "Boss is going to be real happy when he finds out you wouldn't do anything to help catch the Butcher. Dead hookers, dead johns." Well, not yet anyway. |

8/7/10 Adria wrote: "Kiki... Not sure I've met her yet. Well...let's go see if we can convince the whores that we really are trying to help them" Mac glanced over at Adria. At least she wasn’t being solicitous, which was a good sign. She may yet survive the day, although whether that referred to Mac herself or Adria had yet to be determined. Adria needed to be brought up to speed on the people of the District it seemed. Well, giving her the info would pass the time and maybe even hide the fact that Mac really didn’t know what she was doing. Beyond having no clue where to find the older woman, Mac didn’t know how they would get what they needed from her. “Kiki is one of the older women in the District. She seems like kind of the mother hen type, so we’re assuming the others would come to her with their problems. She also seems willing to talk to us, so hopefully she’ll tell us what someone has told her. At least that’s the plan.” Mac figured to start where she’d met Kiki the night before last. Was it really only two nights ago that she’d talked to Kiki? It seemed like a lifetime. It was very much another person that had met her, not Mac. “I don’t know her flat, but I figure we can start where I met her last. If you’ve got any ideas, I’m listening.” Only one thing remained. Mac knew this was pretty much their last shot at getting any information in the District. If this didn’t pan out, they might as well pack up and leave for all the good they’d be able to do. So, it was critical that they not blow this. Two days ago, Mac would have cared about offending Adria by questioning her abilities, but that had been another woman in another life. This new Mac wasn’t terribly fussed one way or the other. “Go easy on her. Soft sell it, okay? These whores spook easily and we can’t afford to lose Kiki. Think of this as our only chance to make any progress here and you won’t be too far off the mark.” |

8/9/10 "Nope. This is as good a plan as any" Adria replied lightly. At the comment about taking it easy, Adria sighed slightly to herself. "That's sort of obvious" she replied. "I don't respect prostitution and don't see any reason why a person can't get a better line of work if they just work at it a little. That doesn't mean I'm going to walk around treating the whores like garbage. I've been around long enough to know that threats and intimidation don't work with them as a means of gaining information. They get enough of that sort of thing on a daily basis that a little more of it isn't going to get us anywhere." Adria tried to keep the exasperation out of her tone, and succeeded reasonably well. She tried to keep in mind that Mac had just lost someone close to her, and the fact that she didn't know Adria's capabilities yet. Still...being talked to like she was a rookie fresh from the academy grated a bit, and some of her irritation came through. |

8/12/10 Adria wrote: "Nope. This is as good a plan as any" Well, kao. Mac was hoping Adria would have had something. She needed someone else’s input; her own brain was too fuzzy to think and the coffee hadn’t helped that any. But she could tell she’d insulted the other woman with her comments. Mac shrugged in response. Right now, it was one of those “if you can’t stand the heat” situations. She wasn’t going to be babysitting anyone through this investigation, yet neither was she going to assume Adria knew enough to be useful. It was a fine line to walk and Mac had no balance at the moment. Conflicts would be inevitable. She could only hope Adria was professional enough to set it aside and focus on the case. They headed for the same street where Mac had met Kiki all those lifetimes ago. She did think it behooved her to do something to get along with Adria, so while they walked, she asked, “So, what’s your background?” |

Hutch

8/12/10 Hutch was cinching on his gunbelt walking through the ship, looking to see who was left. He saw Rachel in the med bay, accompanied by Eva, who didn't look too happy as Rachel was prattling on to her. Adria and Mac were out to look for Kiki. Rex was taking care of Lily. Cooper was running down some leads, so that left who? That left the other new guy. Andy? No, it was something more formal. Andrew. He came on with Adria and he needed to talk with the man some more. Get a sense about him. Hutch found Andrew in the shower room. He was in front of a mirror grooming himself with a towel wrapped around his waist. "Let's go, newbie, you'll be with me," Hutch said as he barely made eye contact. "Trackers are up again. Have a Reverend to pin down. You have 5 minutes. Meet you at the cargo bay doors." |

8/12/10 "Boss is going to be real happy when he finds out you wouldn't do anything to help catch the Butcher. Dead hookers, dead johns." Cooper heard the whir and cock of a gun behind him. The unassuming man stood far enough back to make a quick physical attack improbable. But he was close enough to be able to shoot Cooper before Cooper could turn to defend himself. "Boss is real unhappy already, Collector," Monkey stated. "Drop the Gun and release your prisoner. He has work to do tonight." Monkey paused a moment before finishing. "I will shoot you if you try to resist. I have that authority," he went on. ”Boss doesn't want to shoot you... yet. So let's get going." |

8/13/10 "I was a cop on Londinium for awhile. Some...personal things came up, and I resigned. Been working as a private investigator since" Adria replied. It was all true, but she wasn't really one to go into too many details when she didn't have to. If Mac asked for more details, Adria would give them...to a point...but only if asked. "What's yours?" |

8/13/10 Andrew was busy watching himself in the mirror as he shaved. Slowly, he ran the blade down his neck before running it under hot water and starting again. He was lost in his own mind for the time being, still thinking about last night. More often than not, Andrew found he usually lost interest in the woman after sleeping with her. With Adria, however, this was simply not the case. If anything, he was even more infatuated with her. His face faltered then, and Andrew looked up as he heard someone approach. He stopped as Hutch entered the shower room, and stared solemnly at the man through the mirror. Hutch wrote: "Let's go, newbie, you'll be with me," I really hate that name. "Trackers are up again. Have a Reverend to pin down. You have 5 minutes. Meet you at the cargo bay doors." Andrew watched as Hutch made his exit, and then resumed shaving. Cargo Bay It didn’t take long for Andrew to finish cleaning up. Within’ minutes, he was fully dressed and at the cargo bay. The second he entered, he spotted Hutch down by the doors, just as he had said. Andrew said nothing as he approached, but merely nodded. It was clear he did not like this man, although it was nothing personal. The fact that he was Captain made him uneasy, and Andrew hated feeling uneasy. |

8/13/10 well this was getting interesting, the boss huh. I pushed Delano back up against the wall. . "You're still under arrest pimples." nothing makes a man cooperative like a gun in their face. but a guy that would stick one in the face of a Federal Marshal in a street full of witness. that was one dangerous man. but it wasn't my first parade with the clown cars and the rhinestone saddled pooping horses at the end... "I'd like to meet this boss of your's stinkie, but I'm going to reach in jacket for my gun now. If you still got your's out you better use it with deadly force because I'll use mine in exactly that manner. Then; we'll go see your boss." I held up my badge again so it was plain to see, for the boss's thug and the long necking witness's; then I reach in and slipped out my semi-automatic. I didn't figure to shoot to kill if he didn't put on in my eye first. Just a little maiming. Maimed people are generally coherrent... |

8/13/10 Adria wrote: "I was a cop on Londinium for awhile. Some...personal things came up, and I resigned. Been working as a private investigator since" Mac could tell there was a lot that was unspoken in those words. She glanced sideways at Adria, wondering how the tale she was hiding might affect their case. If Adria wanted secrets, that was perfectly fine with Mac. Up until those secrets got someone hurt, that is. And Mac had the disturbing feeling that such was the case here. Of course, that may have just been her natural mistrust of people, but she’d long ago learned that just because she was paranoid didn’t mean they weren’t out to get her. However, Mac wouldn’t probe until she knew the other woman better. Saying the wrong thing right now could be irreparable and she wasn’t one for taking stupid risks. Best to let this take its course… within reason. Adria wrote: "What's yours?" Mac sighed and shrugged. Of course Adria would want return information, but how best to begin. It would have to be the abbreviated version, but Mac didn’t want Adria to draw the wrong conclusions from the parts she left out. “I was supposed to have been career military, but life made other plans. I had the misfortune of being assigned to Serenity Valley at the end of the war. And I learnt some things that made me unfit for command. So, rather than fail my next several reviews, I chose to resign. I did consulting security work for a while until Allied Law Enforcement picked me up.” She forcibly kept her Valley look off her face as she said this. And without consciously realising what she was doing, her hand snaked into her pocket to finger her Ranger tab, her last connection to the life she had wanted and now could never have. It was time to change the subject. “You ever worked on a serial murder case before?” |
