8/14/10 "Once. It was this religious cultist who was convinced he was a prophet or something. Went around sacrificing women to purify them of their sins or somesuch nonsense. Said they'd been 'chosen' to be the consorts of the angels or something like that. This was one of my first cases" Adria replied. "Hard to believe someone that crazy was left loose on the streets for so long." She walked in silence for a few more moments, remembering the lack of any glimmer of sanity in the man's eyes when they'd finally caught him. "What about you?" |

Mac grimaced at the description, but in a way it was also a relieved grimace. Adria had some experience with this; something that Mac herself lacked. It would be good to pass on the responsibility for this case to someone more qualified. Because while the army may have taught her how to command; it also taught her when not to, when to pass that mantle on to someone else. Besides, everything about this case just screamed that there would be nasty political ramifications and she was unwilling to risk her brand new, untried neck on that. She had no desire to ruin her career before it had even gotten started. With Adria’s expertise, they may even be able to get this mess finished and still come out the other side in one piece, although she suspected she’d still come out with some bits missing. “Me? This is my first case. I’m fresh out of the Academy. Look, I hate to admit this, but I’ve got no experience here. I did intell during the war. I’m supposed to be the person sitting at a desk collating the information, although I have enough field experience that I can gather my own intell when needed. That’s the reason I’m here, for that ability to do find the hidden two’s, put them together and get four. Only I’ve never met a group so resistant to interrogation as these whores, so I’m afraid I’m not much use. “I hope you can accomplish something, because I keep getting stonewalled. In fact, think of me as along for the ride. You’re driving.” |

8/14/10 I'd made a mistake, this guy wasn't some punk, it must have been a trigger man; cold and ready to kill me. He cocked his head a bit and was going to put that bullet in my eye. Bad play Cooper, RUT. Joe saved my ass then, he'd been nearby. For a big guy he'd made himself scarce enough, and when I needed him most he someone got the jump from behind the killer. As Joe's big arm came cracking down on the triggerman's weapon arm I jumped to the side. One shot went off and hit somewhere off a building just off center of where I'd been standing. The killer wasn't just a gun moll though, the smash of Joe's arm against the killer's arm hardly stunned him. The gun was on the street and suddenly so was Joe. He'd given up leverage and advantage to save me from taking a bullet. I had my gun out then though but the killer was already ducking between a hooked and the side of a building. By the time I stumbled to my feet and got to the alley he'd gone down. He was gone. Delano too had scampered away, cuffs on and all. "great." I patted Joe the Marine on the shoulder as he stood. The hooker's had scattered too. I picked up the killer's gun. "I owe you a big bottle of hooch Joe. Name your poison." "I'm not much of a drinker Detective." "Well you should start, I can teach you." He chuckled a bit and gave me a slap on the shoulder. It hurt like hell being the one I'd landed on, that and the size of his mitt being like a hockey goaler's glove. "Come on, let's get back to the ship." The street had emptied, I was spinning my wheels again. <Permission and guidance from Abbey > |

8/14/10 Adria nearly laughed at the thought of being in charge of anything...of leading, of being in charge of other people. "I'm not sure being a rookie on one serial murder case really counts as experience. I did little more than...fetch coffee and polish bullets" she replied, her tone conveying her amusement at the idea of being in charge of anything. She was exaggerating a bit on her duties, but she hadn't exactly been instrumental in catching the perpetrator either. "I'll do what I can, but I'm not used to being in charge of anything but myself." Sometimes not even that much... A very faint hint of a smirk crossed her features. And sometimes I can be in charge of one other person for a short time she thought, her mind going to certain events of last night and her smirk coming out a little more. She couldn't remember the last time she'd enjoyed herself that much. "So...how much farther until we get to Kiki's?" she asked, bringing her mind back to the work that needed to be done. |

8/14/10 Mac recognised the smirk and the distant, dreamy look that flashed across Adria’s features. She’d worn one, too, upon occasion, so she knew the thoughts in the other woman’s head. A small frown crossed her own face in response. One thing she’d had to learn the hard way was how not to let what you felt get in the way. Even with Jelani, she’d never gotten careless. She ruthlessly pushed aside all thoughts of him, so that she wouldn’t get distracted. That could happen later, in her quarters and with some privacy. But her confidence in the case sank just a little more. She’d been counting on Adria to pick up the slack and the more she got to know the other woman, the less she felt that would happen. She suppressed a sigh. They’d just have to muddle though as best they could and hope they’d get a lucky break somehow. That’d be about the only way they’d solve this case. Adria wrote: "So...how much farther until we get to Kiki's?" Mac pointed with her chin just up the street a little. “I met her here the first time. Sitting on that stoop over there. Don’t know if that’s her flat, but making a guess about what I can read from her, I’d say not. She seems like the type to want to be around people, so I would expect her to be where the girls are. “Still, it couldn’t hurt to knock and ask. Worst they’ll do is…” Before she could add any more, a shot rang out through the district and her head whipped around trying to identify the direction of the report. It was too far away for her to place the location; the sound seemed to echo off all the buildings around her. Heading in the direction she thought the gunfire came from, she signalled Adria to watch her back while she pulled out her comm to call the ship. She used the ship-wide band, which would reach everyone on the crew. “Hutch, Cooper, Mac here. We’ve got gunfire in the district. I can’t tell the exact location; it may have been from the flats. Adria and I are going to investigate. We’re midtown right now, so if you can get someone out here, we could use some more boots to canvas the area.” |

8/15/10 Hutch looked at Andrew. "Relax a bit, I ain't gonna bite you," Hutch told Andrew. "I may be the Captain, but I'm just a regular guy like you." Hutch gave the guy a slight smile. "So you and Adria kinda close? You seem to have formed quite a bond." Hutch had been an investigator for quite some time. Not much got by him. Unfortunately, his "questioning" of Andrew was cut short. “Hutch, Cooper, Mac here. We’ve got gunfire in the district. I can’t tell the exact location; it may have been from the flats. Adria and I are going to investigate. We’re midtown right now, so if you can get someone out here, we could use some more boots to canvas the area.” Hutch had heard the shot too, but it wasn't in their area. He looked at Andrew while he commed her back. "We heard it too, but Andrew and I just hit the edge of the Flats. It's not here. Sounded more towards Midtown. Cooper? Are you there? Do you see or hear the origin of the shot fired?" Hutch covered the comm with his hands. "That sound like it came from Midtown to you too?" he asked Andrew. |

8/15/10 Hutch wrote: "Relax a bit, I ain't gonna bite you," Andrew clenched his jaw, silently cursing himself for being so foolish. Usually he was better at hiding his emotions. He was definitely going to have to take extra care of how he acted around this man. "I may be the Captain, but I'm just a regular guy like you." Andrew smiled then, though what might have seemed like a friendly gesture to Hutch was merely an act of dark humour to Andrew. Just like me... if only. He reached out to shake his hand, the most proper way of introduction... so he thought. “Sorry,” he said. “Not so used to following orders.” It was then when he heard the shot. Curious, Andrew looked out towards where the noise was heard. Wasn’t too far away... 100 yards perhaps... Give or take a few. Mac wrote: “Hutch, Cooper, Mac here. We’ve got gunfire in the district. The shot definitely came from midtown. Unfortunately for him... he was likely going to have to go and investigate with them. Despite his willingness to stay for the time being, He wanted to avoid being with Hutch as much as he could... though without appearing suspicious in any way. Hutch wrote: "That sound like it came from Midtown to you too?" Andrew nodded. “Absolutely,” he said with forced enthusiasm. |

8/15/10 When she heard the shot, Adria's hand went automatically to her gun and she tilted her head to listen for the location. Any hint of her friendly side disappeared, and she became all business. The echoes made that difficult at best. She nodded once at Mac's signal and unholstered her gun. She scanned the area looking for any sign of the shooter. She kept one ear on the surrounding area and one ear on Mac's conversation with Hutch as she looked around. |

8/16/10 < I edited my last post.... to keep in time... > "Detective Mandrake here." I replied on the Comm. Would have been nice to fill them in? But in keeping with the chaotic nature of the whole rodeo, my mind had skipped away to me next, what do I do next. "That was me. Not me shooting, me getting shot at. One of the local hoodlums, connected with Ink and THE BOSS. Wanted me to go along under duress. I figured to refuse so he was going to shoot me." My voice sounded strangely calm considering I'd been about to bite the big poison apple and swallow whole. "Marine Corporal Joe...uh... you know Joe? Anyway, he pulled my ass out of the fire and back in to the frying pan. Perp got away heading west, Delano should be running around somewhere with a set of my cuffs on him. As for the hookers, they've gone to ground." |

Perp got away heading west, Delano should be running around somewhere with a set of my cuffs on him. As for the hookers, they've gone to ground." Hutch was happy that he knew where the shooting was coming from and that Cooper was unarmed, but he was not happy about the fact that the local hoods seemed to be organizing (no pun intended) and looking for answers of their own. Plus the whores going to ground? That is going to make it harder than it already was to get them to cooperate. Getting through to Kiki was even more important now. "Keep me updated," was all that Hutch said in response. Hutch looked down at the tracker that showed where the unit that they placed on Reverend Marley was located. He got oriented with the environment and started walking. "This way, Andrew," he said. He followed the tracker into the flats. As he walked by Lily's place, he looked up and smiled. He was going to miss her when they left. "Looks like he is up here." Up there right between Jana and Callista's Flats. Practically at the scene. When they got to the alley between the two flats, they found nothing. The Reverend was not there. Upon further inspection, they found numerous footprints, including ones under Callista's window. Nearby on the ground was a belt. Hutch picked it up very carefully, using his gun barrel to lift it by the buckle. "This is the Reverend's. There is the unit we placed on him." And there was blood on the belt, along with small pieces of flesh. "Well, well," Hutch said. "What do you think of this whole thing, Andrew?" |

Perp got away heading west, Delano should be running around somewhere with a set of my cuffs on him. As for the hookers, they've gone to ground." Mac slowed as Cooper gave his report. She had a sudden mental image of someone running around in handcuffs and it was funny enough that she nearly cracked a smile. Had this happened yesterday, she might have teased Coop about it. But today, the thought of a partner getting shot was too much to bear. It would have been nice of Cooper to give them some warning, instead of just poking at the anthill and then walking away. But as with all else, Mac didn’t have the energy to do anything about it, so she let it slide. “Good to hear he missed, Coop,” was all she could manage. Any more and she would be uncomfortably close to the memory of Jelani again. Even now, she had to push the threat of flashbacks away forcibly. She privately disagreed with his assessment that the hookers had all gone to ground. Nothing attracted a crowd like a disaster and gunfire more than qualified as one. They may not be visible, but they’d be there. And with crowds, hopefully, there would be Kiki. Even with all that was going on, Mac had not lost sight of her objective. She waited for Adria to finish up her scrutiny of the area, somewhat mollified by the fact that the other woman was professional when it came to crunch time. They may not be able to find the information they wanted, but Mac could rest a lot easier knowing that Adria would have her back. “What say we go check out the shooting? Contrary to what Coop says, I think the noise would attract people. And where people are, hopefully, we’ll find Kiki. If nothing else, we should find someone who knows where she’d be. Or, if you have a better idea, I’m listening.” Fortunately, the problem of finding Kiki became moot as Mac spied her coming around the corner, ice cream, bounce, and all. She silently signalled to Adria, that the woman in the distance was the one they were looking for. |

8/19/10 Cooper's statement over the comm did nothing to made Adria stop her scan of the area. She relaxed her posture only after she was satisfied the area was clear. "Yeah...might not be a bad idea" Adria replied. She turned to Mac, and saw her signal. She followed Mac's line of sight to the older woman walking towards them. Adria was a bit surprised that the woman was still a whore at her age. Adria approached the woman slowly and in a non-threatening way, trying for friendliness. "Hi. You're Kiki right? I'm Adria, and this is Mac. We'd like to talk to you about something. Sort of...a favor to ask." |

8/20/10 "Hi. You're Kiki right? I'm Adria, and this is Mac. We'd like to talk to you about something. Sort of...a favor to ask." Kiki took another lick of her ice cream cone and studied them closely. "I's don'ts do girl ons girl normally, but you both looks attractive enough," Kiki said with a wide smile as she looked both of them up and down. "It'll costs you extra though." She took another lick of her ice cream, not seeming to miss a beat, like it was an everyday practice. |
