Janet looked over Mechanic Beauchamp like she might be browsing a cupboard for a snack or a matching plate for dinner.

"Congra-juh-lateshuns."

She looked back toward the distant Medical compound building, then toward a screen that had a zoomed in view of the northern corner where the crew were.

"The Port thruster sluggish, when we getta chance maybe a changn' a the hydraulics." A dirty job, but looking at the man again she smiled as though it might be right up his alley.

"Have a seat," she stopped herself, as though she wished she hadn't offered to have him plant his nasty dirty ass in one of the, but what the hell, it wasn't her chair.
She was in her chair. She smiled wide at that, but was looking at him.

"The guy that does the ordering and whatnot'lll be around somewheres. The overdressed butler... "

"Oh Son of A..." spluttered Pepper before diving to the side. Which one, which one, she thought furiously. She didn't have a little internal demon radar like some of the others. Fine, she decided, she'd fry the naked guy with the gun and go from there.

Of course, things like that are always easier thought than done. Naked guy wasn't the only one with a weapon. Pepper hit the floor, only got about two seconds of breathing time, then had to roll to the right to avoid a blade. "Damn!" she yelped, rolling again, trying to find her feet. The flurry of movement around her suggested every one of the bastards was armed.

Finally getting to her feet, Pepper saw a blade coming toward her and ducked under it, punching the woman holding it hard in the side, then even harder in the face as the woman bent into the first blow. With an 'oof' that was one down. Yeah, thought Pepper, with annoyance; great, one helps a whole a bunch. She twisted out of the way of another blade and felt her temperature rise as she ducked, twisted, punched and kicked. By the time there was a blade she couldn't dodge, it didn't matter. She was so angry she simply blocked the metal with one hand and held it until it melted, dropping to the ground in gloops. The man looked at the hilt he still held as though not quite able to understand how it was no longer attached to a blade. Then he looked up at Pepper and she was viciously happy to see the recognition in his eyes turn to fear. Ignoring the gash the now melted blade had left in her palm, Pepper slapped the man open handed before kicking his feet out from under him and stomping on his mid section. She left him there with a hand print seared into his face and what she thought might be two broken ribs.

She suddenly found herself being given a wide berth by the weirdos with the blades and it looked like the guy with the gun wouldn't be able to shoot her without shooting a few of his own people. She didn't feel safe as such, but she didn't mind having the breather. She looked for Barto. He was the one with the demon getting rid of device so he was the one she should be standing in front of at this point.

"oh yes. The whole gorram thing is funny. Funny I'm stuck in this liquid Oxygen-variant tank, funny you're a man now, funny to listen to Clare and Barto rut like a satyr and a succubus...."

"For a higher-knowing being, you don't seem to realize when a message is *not* intended for you," said Roland, his voice a mixture of amusement and chiding. "A dead world that I once called home is something I can hardly care about if its minions remain where they are. The presence of the demons was simply a by-product of the inner desires of humans. Greed, lust, hatred, envy. All emotions that caused the demons to come into being. In a sense, the demons are simply a dull manifestations of the minds of men. Surely its occurred to you that destroying said demons and preventing their gate from the old dead world to the new worlds is simply delaying the inevitable. The presence of man and the inherent darkness in its soul will once again begin the cycle. Do not think that our actions will bring about any respite from the cycle."

With this he turned to leave. "I will do what needs to be done. When my tasks our complete, I only ask for that which is due me."

Mary had shucked off the white labcoat out in the hall, just leaving her with a dark pair of pants and a white tank. Something comfy if she needed to fight.

As they entered the room, Mary could tell there was something odd about the room. She could make out two of the walls, but the other two just seemed to be... missing. It couldn't be an open room... could it? She couldn't make out any railings of any kind. Plus, they were pretty high up and all the structures around them were floating as well. She was about to lean towards someone to ask when her attention was drawn by someone speaking.

"I thought you would have arrived before now."

She saw a group of people there and quickly counted one atop a table and 13 others around him. Then she noticed the one on the table turn something towards them. She almost didn't notice him holding something, but the straight extension from his hand told her it was a gun... a little too late. She was in the process of diving for the floor when she felt the bullet graze her side. She hissed in pain as she hit the floor harder than she wanted. She rolled onto her back and placed her hand against her side. When she drew it away, it was sticky and wet. She brought her hand into view. Then she saw something she never thought she'd see... ever.

Color.

Red.

Or at least she thought it was red. They always said blood was red. So it had to be red... right?

She was brought out of her shock as one of the people from around the table rushed towards her. She could clearly see the knife this time. She reached beside her, grabbed her staff and thrust the end upwards into their midsection. She quickly got up while they were stunned a bit, followed through by sweeping their feet from our from under them, then another good whack in the head rendered the person out of commission.

She looked at her staff to see it smeared with red. She looked down at her no longer all-white shirt to notice a good sized red stain on it.

Holy Jesus! she thought. I'm bleeding!

She didn't get much time to think about it more as another person rushed at her.

"The Port thruster sluggish, when we getta chance maybe a changn' a the hydraulics."

Nobby nodded once and would have made a note of it if he'd been the sort to keep a notebook. He decided he's just remember. At Janet's offer to sit, Nobby decided to decline. He was a mess and replacing upholstery was always like... last on the list of things a ship needs, just before the naked girl mudflaps.

"The guy that does the ordering and whatnot'lll be around somewheres. The overdressed butler... "

"Do you mean that guy with the voice of Death?" He asked, visibly nervous. Majordomo gave Nobby the willies, he didn't mind admiting. And wouldn't it be just typical if it turned out that he was actually a decent person underneath it all?

NANCY NOX
Roland is met by Majordomo outside the 'quarters' of Ownership. More time than he was aware of had passed.
"So you are taking the mantle then." Majordomo nodded without indicating his feelings on the matter.
"The others are in the Medical Center, they should be encountering the demon shortly."
They walk together to the bridge, joining Janet and Nobby.

MEDICAL CENTER
The windows shattered from misplaced gunfire, blood and burning limbs and blades and bullets flew, so too did Clare launching herself at one of the minions in the middle of the room. Bartolomeo shouted out some incantation which seemed to boom above the roar of the chaos in some sort of supernatural manner. A dark smoke attempted to escape from a minion's mouth, but Clare pressed the Amulet against her forehead. The smoke receeded back into 'its' mouth, a blade punctured Clare's side. Clare screamed but held the amulet firm. The demon possessed host waved an arm at Bartolomeo and he somersaulted across broken glass and landed dangerously close to the now busted out window. He continued the incantation.

Pepper spotted Barto through the smoke just as the sprinklers came on. Steam and fog rose from the heat around her. Victor Denns held a point near Pepper and Mary, providing a defense for them. The man in corner had crumbled bleeding from a shot by Denns, the man's wild shooting had continued; which had resulted in the broken windows.

The remaining minions moved to try and rip Clare from their master, or mistress, who now screamed in agony as the amulet burned its forehead and the incantations of Barto were called out. Two minions pulled wooden stakes and hammers. Two others reached under rugs and slid out light assault rifles and turned to the crew of Nancy Nox.

NANCY NOX
The four on the bridge could see the glass breaking out of the building on the zoomed in screen.
Melody felt the Sword of Seamus calling, demanding she rise and take her place at the forefront. The sword wants demon death.

Roland considered Belinda's words as he exited the chamber.

Lead. How can I lead when I'm not sure about this whole bloody quest to begin with?

Activating the comlink he patched into the crew transmitters. "Crew of the Nancy Nox, this is Roland. I would have words with you in the ship's galley."

Nothing.

"What the hell?" he muttered. He repeated the message with still no reply.

"Bloody hell why can't anything be easy? This is going to be like herding cats." He made his way to the bridge where he saw the video screen monitoring some explosive action scene while four others watched in horror.

"What is this?" he said, legitimately curious as to what they were watching. "Oh I've seen this one. Old twentieth century film from Earth-That-Was about the cop who goes to visit his wife on Christmas Eve and gets trapped in a building full of terrorists. Wait..." he moved closer to get a better view. "Is that...Pepper?"

((OOC) Major Edit)

Melody felt the Sword of Seamus calling, demanding she rise and take her place at the forefront. The sword wants demon death......

The scream died of its own accord as Melody felt the swords pull. Without thought she held out her hand and the Sword of Seamus sailed from where she had left it by the door and landed in her hand. The shower she had taken earlier had been undone by the dream as she had sweated so much her hair was plastered to her scared face. He satin night shirt was also plastered to her body as she rose from the bed, one spaghetti strap draped off her shoulder.

She stepped from the bed and touched down on the floor in a daze. She walked through the doorway of her room and stood in the passage, sword held in a two handed grip, point trailing the wall to the right. Sparks followed in her wake.

She stopped and almost panted with the desire to fight, yet she had no targets.

Yet.

Pepper looked up as the sprinklers came on, irritated to have another distraction added to the tumult. The water was evaporating before it hit her, but it was also making it harder to maintain control. She had to pour twice as much effort into every bit of heat. Barto had just been flung against a wall and she took a step toward him, but then Clare screamed and Pepper watched as a blade was drawn from the vampire's side. "Ouch..." she couldn't help saying aloud, even though it wasn't her being hurt. The weirdos all seemed to be converging on Clare now and Pepper decided to go to her instead of Barto.

That idea was reinforced when she saw two of the weirdos pull out stakes. It was enough of shock on top of her poor concentration that some of her heat disipated, though she didn't notice until she felt the water from the sprinklers on her skin. "Damn" she said. Obviously some research had happened on the side of the baddies. Pepper didn't know why this had thrown her so much, but she had to shake it off and move or Clare had more than pain to worry about. At the back of mind though, there was the question... what else did they know about who?

Building her heat back up with every step she took, Pepper moved in on the people attacking the vampire. A stream of heat turned into flame as it moved from her body to wrap around Clare and the trapped Demon. Another lick of fire was sent to the timber stakes. Nothing was burning as well as Pepper would have liked though; her focus was still off and the sprinklers weren't helping things. And she didn't seem to have that angry spark that had made her so strong back at the temple.

Though... there was something here, something that reminded her of what she'd felt at the half lion M's place. It was coming from the creature in the middle of her ring of flame. Pepper frowned. She had no idea what it meant, but she was pretty sure she wouldn't like it when she finally figured it out. Something else she didn't like - Clare's little seal the demon in til Barto could get rid of it trick really wasn't doing much for Pepper's plan of finding out about her ship. How was she supposed to talk to one if all the Nox crew did was show up, silence the creature then get rid of it? She would have to find another way.

For now though, she concentrated on building her ring of flame into a funnel. She was aiming for something two people deep going from floor to well over head height. It meant not paying much attention to the rest of her surroundings and having to draw a fair chunk of her own personal heat away and into her creation, but she was determined to make it so Clare couldn't be attacked again. She just wished someone would turn off those damned sprinklers.

The second person who launched themselves at Mary, swung his knife directly at her. She got her staff up quick enough for him to embed the knife deep into the shaft. He tried to pull it out, but it was stuck, so he grabbed hold of the staff and tried to wrestle it from Mary.

She could feel the wound on her side rub against her cotton shirt. She could see the blood on her staff, but was unwilling to look down at her shirt to see if it was bleeding badly, mainly because of the crazy person who was trying to relieve her of her weapon and probably beat her to death with it.

He pushed her backwards far enough that her back hit the wall, which made her side throb. He was pushing the staff dangerously close to her throat and she worked hard to resist his advances.

Feeling he was close enough, she delivered a well-placed knee to a very sensitive area. His eyes bulged as he let go of the staff and fell to the floor, holding the affected area. Mary took that moment to swing the staff like a baseball bat, connecting with the man's jaw and sending him into neverland.

Mary wobbily forced herself back into a fighting position as she looked to see who was next. It was then she caught sight of the two minions with the guns. This time she she spotted them with plenty of time.

Go se, she thought. Not again.

She dove to the floor again. Looking up, she noticed Clare get skewered by one of the minions, so although their numbers were decreasing they were still significantly dangerous, especially the ones with the guns. She saw a desk near the wall, so she crawled on her belly until she got behind it. She needed some cover and a little rest. She was feeling a little dizzy. So once she was behind the desk, she just lay there on her back, holding her side as the fight continued around her. She hissed with pain as she probed the wound with her fingers. It was deeper than she thought and was still bleeding freely. She looked down again at her shirt and a good portion of her left side was covered.

Red.

The blood mystified her. She had seen it everywhere. On her. On the minions that were neutralized. On Clare's side.

Color.

Blood.

Red.

She pulled a handheld comm out of her pocket.

"I'm wounded. Think Clare got stabbed too. Not sure of anyone else…" she reported. She was really starting to feel funny now, but she wasn't sure why. She had a bad graze, but she didn't think it was life threatening. Then the room around her bent like someone was twisting it from the edges and she was dizzy beyond anything she felt before. Was there something on the bullets themselves? On maybe all their weapons? The demon and its minions knew about them coming and about the crew's unique abilities, could they have hedged their bets by placing poison or drugs on the weapons to slow them down? She tried to articulate what she knew, but wasn't sure if she made any sense. "Not feeling so good. Poison... or drugs on the weapons? Help would be useful..."

Her words were starting to slur a bit as she looked fascinated at her hand again. The color was so vivid.

"Youse guys know bloods was red?"

"Hell, they're in trouble!" shouted Roland, diving for the control panel and bringing up the ship's nav computer. He had limited experience with ships in his time as a blade for hire. He often flew small, one-man scout craft for short distances. How different could a Firefly be?

He punched up the away team's coordinates on the planet at set a course in the nav computer. Flipping on the autopilot, he set a trajectory and had the computer calculate optimal atmospheric entry coordinates.

With a lurch, the Nox's drives kicked in and she plunged into the atmosphere, shaking violently as Roland tweaked the parameters of the entry trajectory a few degrees beyond what the computer deemed safe.

"We're in route," he said, punching up the team comlink. He hoped they were still alive to hear him. "Estimated time of arrival is seven minutes."

"What the hell are you doin' monkeydick?" Janet took a swing to knock him back, but Roland had easily avoided it, given she had strapped herself in.
She took the controls and turned off the auto-program. A light flickered indicating an Alliance required input for entering restricted space.

"Buhn Dahn." Janet looked at him, made a face that looked like she'd just as soon chew his face off as be looking at him. "We had a plan, Christ! Guess they better be ready." She turned on the com, "Knobs!" then turned, remembering he was right there, "Go boot up for a hard burn, but a gorram short one, Swordmama says we got one at that moon over head."

Nancy Nox lurched as Janet took the Firefly into a flight angle increased.

"Attenention Firefly, 32x2, vector angle 63. Identify yourself at once."

"You wanna jump on that Captain Can-I-ruttin-Say a frikkin thing before I toss the mutterrutter ship into the atmo?"
Janet flew.

"and cease your descent. Cease your descent!"

Moron/Idiot - Buhn dahn,
and they sorta had a plan... didn't they?

In the Medical Center, Clare had the one possessed in her grip. The Amulet pressed against its forehead, the dark smoke of its essence began to ooze from its mouth. The others circled around and were dispatched by the rest of the Nancy Nox crew. Bartolomeo continued his incantation.

The possessed minion beat at Clare's side to no avail, then thrust out a hand toward Barto and he crashed into the wall near the door they came in. He paused, made a face as though we was getting plenty tired of that routine. The exorcism continued, the possessed being suck in the black smoke and ran.

It ran out the broken windows and off the high multi-story building. Clare held on.

And fell a dozen stories below into the ocean. As to if Clare held on all the way down couldn't be determined by anyone.
Once the Demon had left the large office, the other minions cowered in fear, confusion filled their eyes.

Bartolomeo Colombo raced to the broken out window, his incantation has stopped.

"and cease your descent. Cease your descent!"

"Negative, negative...no can do," said Roland moments before he realized the comlink was set to receive-only. Flipping it to "transmit", he repeated himself.

"Um, negative, negative, no can do. We have major catastrophic damage to our emitter coils. Must land quickly. Very dangerous, very hazardous. Um, communications going out. We're losing your signal."

With this, he cut the comm channel.

"Why do the Feds feel compelled to involve themselves in everyone's business?" said Roland as the Nox plunged through the heavy cloud cover. Scanners showed the ship closing in rapidly on the team's location, a building located in a nearby city.

The Nox's hull glowed red and sparks showered the night sky as it streaked by casting a brilliant light display and multiple sonic booms. The ship shook violently as Roland applied afterburners to coax even more power out of the system.

WARNING! EXCEEDING OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS! PULL UP! PULL UP!

"Target in sight," he said, sweating as he activated the computer-assisted landing routines. "Janet, you may want to strap yourself in. This may get a bit......rough."

"Get your hands off the mutherruttin controls!" Janet screamed at him. She wrestled to take control, shut off the auto-controls, fought with the controls.
Majordomo stumbled and fell trying to get to a seat and strap himself in.

SPEED CRITICAL! CANNOT IMPLEMENT OPTIMAL LANDING PATTERN!

The engines screamed as the Nox's automated landing routines threw the ship into violent deceleration. The building where the team was located was dead ahead and closing fast.

"Oh, shi..." muttered Roland when he realized they wouldn't be able to avoid the building.

A moment later, the Nox smashed into the structure, plowing across the top of the building. The landing gear remained up, keeping the ship sliding across the structure like a lost ice skate, except the started to spin and turn about. The ship lurched and a thruster hit the metalic roof, clipped a transmision tower and sent the ship in to an even faster spin. In the opposite directin. Nancy Nox continued,

Right off the other side of the building. Sparks and flames left behind in the wake of torn metal displayed a scarred landing, and then nothing at the edge of the building. Nancy Nox fell toward the sea below, the thruster engines came to life again. "Come on you Bitch!" screamed J. J. Jameson as she tried to get some manner of control.

Alarms were going off in the bridge when Roland opened his eyes. Automated cooling systems vented gases as power flickered. Nancy Nox suddenly came to rest, hovering gently a few meters above the water. Damage reports registered minimal damage to the ship's hull and systems and no loss of life. The ship began to move forward around the building, back to the other corner where their crew waited: above in the top floor, and another in the water.

Satisfied that he still lived, Roland unstrapped himself from the pilot's seat and unsheathed a long fighting knife in one hand and a loaded shotgun in the other.

"Backup's arrived," he said to the team comlink. Surveying the destruction left in the wake of the Nox's "landing. Locked onto your position and en route, though I think I lost the element of surprise."

Roland saw a crash from one of the high floors and saw a pair of figures fly out of the building...more like fall than fly, actually. Shouting all manner of curses, they fell screaming into the sea below.

"That's defiantly not good," muttered Roland. "Wait, was that...Clare? CLARE!!! CLARE!!!!"

Roland did not particularly care for Clare. Arrogant and full of hubris, but still she was a crew member. "Clare!!!"

"Bloody hell." Roland stepped off the ship and onto the building. "I'm in, someone please respond! What's your status???"

Roland entered the building through an access tunnel. Main power had already gone out but backup generators were providing a dim light.

Suddenly a figure burst out of the darkness. Its face was contorted into a sick, laughing mockery of human features. Fangs bared, it lunged at Roland.

Roland met the figure with a hard kick to the face and followed with a shotgun blast. Another figure lunged for him, to which he dove out of the way and quickly planted a knife in its throat, nearly severing its head.
