8/31/09 Roland waited for a response from Pepper but sensed something was wrong. "Um, Pepper...is everything alright?" His eyes turned to Mary. "Is everything all right with her?" |

8/31/09 Mary sighed as intense euphoria washed over her. Pepper had fought her at the beginning, but had become very, very still since. It had been a long time since she's felt that intense. She let go of Pepper, guiding her softly to the floor, and looked at Roland. He had years upon years, life upon life of pent up pain and torment. She stepped over Pepper and with inhuman speed, she moved to stand next to Roland. "Let me help you now," she whispered as if she was on a drug induced high. "I promise you, it won't hurt a bit." She laid her hands on him, pushing him securely to the wall of her bunk and closed her eyes as she started again. |

8/31/09 Mary felt herself get jerked back, not viscous, but with a strength that surprised her when she saw who it was. Janet pulled her across the room and away from Roland. "What the rut is wrong with you, you're like some kind of fuckin' emotional vampire or sumthin', christ uh might we got a blood sucker we gotta have a succubus that don't putout too?" She looked over to her 'captain'. "Suggest you send everyone ta bed Cap'n Immoritikus, we'll be at the human verzhin a hell in about 4 hours." Mary could feel her, a finger brushed her neck. The anger in Janet Jonah Jameson, the death of her family, their friends, their families. Everyone that knew them... demons... hate... she'd kill and hunt every damned thing in this verse, then go to hell and shoot them there.... except... she wanted out... just wanted to be loved... quiet... peace... Janet let her go, setting her gently on a chair... "get some sleep, too much fuckin' melodrama... always ruttin somethin..." And she left. In a hurry. |

8/31/09 Roland's eyes narrowed as Janet stormed in and made her presence known. "I can send the crew to bed, whether they get any rest is another matter entirely. I think this ship hasn't known rest for a very, very long time." "Mary, Janet does have a point. You must recharge your energies for the tasks ahead. Thank you for attempting to bring some peace to my soul, but I'm afraid I cannot let you delve deep into me. There are things in there that you should not see and I fear none of your arts would be enough to bring true peace to me. Only one thing will and I feel that is what led me here and has drawn me inexorably to this ship and its tasks." |

9/5/09 When she was grabbed, Pepper didn't fight, she writhed. Searing heat curled up in her, ready to wrap itself around Mary and draw every ounce of moisture and life out of the woman. She was furious, frightened, stunned. How could Mary do this to her? But it happened so quickly. There was a moment of absolute shock, of the fire wanting to burn, and then the calm started to seep into her soul. It was like meditation, a part of Pepper reasoned. Just meditation. Something that had been so deeply a part of her training, it was second nature. And against everything she felt, she started to relax. After a moment, she couldn't even remember why she'd been fighting. Pepper calmed, her breathing slowing, her mind retreating and becoming numb and all her feelings disipating. By the time she was on the floor, there was a foggy haze left where all the thoughts of her ship, her origins or even herself had been. She simply floated, nothing more. It was nice. While it lasted. A corridor started to form out of the haze. Something... familiar. Though she wasn't sure what was familiar and what was not. She wasn't even real clear on her name at this point. But the corridor seemed right somehow. She followed it. The wonder of how she could be following something - was she even walking? It all felt strange - worried at her for a little bit, but not much. She was too peaceful. The corridor started to slope down and she followed it. It was warm she realised. The more she went on the warmer and more familiar it all felt. There was a colour now too. A sort of a lilacy kind of a thing that she knew she knew. But she didn't know where from. Not that it mattered. It was so peaceful. She kept moving down. A lick of flame reached into the corridor from the shadowy recesses she couldn't quite see yet. It lazily stroked the wall, leaving peeling paint and heat blisters behind it, then pulled back into the dark again. Pepper wasn't worried. Even if she hadn't been so calm, she had nothing to fear from a little bit of heat. She moved on. When more than ten lazy tendrils flowed into her path though, Pepper almost stopped. There was a little bit of heat and then there was the kind of heat that warped metal and drew the breath out of her lungs at fifty paces. The corridor ahead seemed to flow, liquid, as the flame bent the walls and floor and ceiling. But... there was still... something. Something past the flame resonated with Pepper on such a level that, combined with the deep meditative state Mary had forced her into, her common sense, even her innate self preservation didn't stand a chance. She walked forward, into the fire and whatever waited for her beyond the corridor's melted end. |
