6/24/09![]() Melody and the Sword of Seamus led them to a very out of the way place. Hidden among the rock of the highly magnetic planet, it made for difficult flying, and impossible scanning. But with the Sword as their compass, they have made their way to beach. Somewhere farther in is a demon. So sayeth the Sword. The Sword only tells the shortest point, a direct line. A line up to the small group of buildings that can be seen up a small hill that leads to the top of the cliffs. But the sword indicates not the village, but below it. |

"First Mate" of the Jolly Roger Tavern

9/2/09 They landed in the shallow clear water. A man walks from the shade a few trees to the left. "Welcome to Tortuga." "I am Mr. Freeze. Are you a seller or a buyer, or you got maybe the stones of the big bull to come here?" Money is shown to Mr. Freeze. Money that will buy a lot of stolen goods, or whatever is sold up on the hill. Men up close to the cliff face indicate that he is well covered. A man with a sniper rifle, another with a machine gun. "This is very good, then you may come to Villagio.. you rent an apartimenta or you like to stay on your ship. Others have left their ships else places you see, better to not attract attention." "And what then to call you as Captain and your ship then?" He has taken out a small comm, prepared to call ahead. |

9/2/09 Men up close to the cliff face indicate that he is well covered. A man with a sniper rifle, another with a machine gun. Since on another labor, Mary's blind sight allowed her to see some more detail. "There's two more snipers," she whispered to Roland and the others. "Both in the trees. One on the left and one on the right. At 10 and 2 o'clock." |

"Our reasons for being here are our own. If you offer no ill will, we'll reciprocate," said Roland, wincing from the light of the sun overhead. He was dressed in a dark overcoat strangely out of place for the warmth around them. He sized up Mr. Freeze, his name drawn from an ancient comic no doubt, and figured him to be the representative of the local power of questionable legitimacy.
Roland gave her a slight nod in response. It appeared that these men were not entirely trustworthy, or perhaps they were just paranoid.
"Call my ship Perdition's Flames," said Roland with a wry grin. "And call me Lucifer. I will see to it that our ship stays out of sight and my crew causes no trouble. I take it our money's good here?" |

9/3/09 "Our reasons for being here are our own. If you offer no ill will, we'll reciprocate," Mr. Freeze seems to take Roland's response at face value, nods with a smirk but approval. "No offense meant... just a warning... there are those here that take advantages of the weak..." His look at the women may have suggested he meant them, or he might have just been cast an admiring eye, or he wondered how just a couple of men would protect them. "Call my ship Perdition's Flames," said Roland with a wry grin. "And call me Lucifer. I will see to it that our ship stays out of sight and my crew causes no trouble. I take it our money's good here?" "Captain Lucifer." He makes a motion of a half-hearted, yet in some way respectful salute. He clearly is unsure what to make of them, but is looking to take a wait and see attitude. He gestured toward's a wide path between the thick shrubs and bushes, up the gentle slope and through the sparse trees; it lead up between the cliff faces. The path is wide enough for two people, there seems to be no real advantage place for an ambush, though no really bad places either. Melody's sword urges her forward, but down. The buildings come into view. Off to the sides are a few people, mostly minding their own business, and keeping an eye out that other's don't mind their's. A group of half a dozen having or sharing sex with one or two others on the ground next to a building, joking. And another group smoking and injesting and injecting something. A woman in a ragged dress awaits at the top, between the buildings. She's quite filthy, obviously nothing on but the dress and a pair of old boots half laced, "Yeh? Yah want a partiment? Got two, fer'n five open." A look at them, "an I'm good ta go, ya wanna do me, I'll slop fer ya wimmin' too, I'm real good" "A cred? or a drop, ya got drops?" Around the south courtyard a couple dozen folks lounge about. Some drinking, some smoking, all sizing up the new comers, and postured a bit to be sized up themselves. A few men stand up and tip hats, most definately at the women of Nancy Nox. There are a few other women scattered in among these people, but not many. None look as good as the sisters of the Nox. (( they arrive between building 8 and the shops, from the east/right. The first people they spotted were off to their right/ north, close to the buildings grouped there. )) |

9/5/09 Pepper gave no response to the men with the guns, though she did raise her eyebrow as Roland gave them the ship's 'name'. Not to mention his own. Did he have any idea how true his words could be? She smiled. She doubted it. She gave as much notice to the whore that approached them as they entered the town. And even less attention to Mary. When Pepper had finally woken up in her bunk, her first thought was not on her strange meditative wanderings, or the way her whole body tingled; it was on how much she wished she could've picked up a weapon and gone and had a long, long talk with Mary. Bitch. But since that would likely have ended with the Nox a pile of slumped metal, and since they were in space at the time and that might be bad for the rest of the crew, not to mention herself, Pepper had left it be. For now. Apart from a distainful glare every time she had to stand anywhere near the other woman, she could wait. There was a new confidence in Pepper's stride. Or perhaps an arrogance. Anyone paying attention to such things would get a sense something, somehow was different anyway. And there was a coolness that hadn't been there before. Hard to tell in someone who delt in fire, but she just didn't seem herself. |

Roland arched an eyebrow at the woman's words trying hard to understand her thick local accent. "I...I think that's good, yes?" He leaned close to Mary and whispered, "I think she's either saying, she'll give us an apartment or else she's saying 'Help, there's a wild pig loose in my kitchen' in ancient Yiddish."
He composed himself and said pleasantly to the woman, "We have cred. An apartment and a place to get some food an drink would be lovely. No drops I'm afraid." "This place reminds me of Higgin's Moon," whispered Roland with a shrug. "Is there someone we can talk to get updates on the local happenings? I'm afraid most traditional Cortex news sources are a bit light when it comes to news of places outside the Core, unless a chicken with three heads is born or something." |

9/8/09 The woman scooted along beside Roland, still hoping for a hand out. "Thar's the cafe, good'n safe food if ya got cash. And that buildin' next to it with the steps is the Forjunado, for drinkin'" A man stands at the top of those stairs, cleaning out a glass with a towel. He nodded in their direction when they took a look. "He'll git ya keys to an apartimint if ya want one, I kin come by later'n do .. whatever." Behind the Nancy Nox crew, a couple of the 'watchers' have followed at a respectful distant, rifles slung easy on their shoulders. Cautious but at ease. Melody feels the sword, a demon is close. Her hand holds the handled and the direction seems to be below them. And something has changed elsewhere. The other demons spread across the verse, a few have changed position, though without pulling the sword and going through the entire bizarre act of determining direction, it's hard to say where or what that means. At the villagio: Melody, Mary, Pepper, Roland, Barto and Clare. At the ship: Denns, Janet, Majordomo, Curly. |

9/8/09 Mary could feel the pull, the intense desire pulling at her soul. It was Pepper. She was angry at Mary and Mary so wanted to quench that anger. With an unfathomable need, she wanted to lay her hands on the woman and calm her. It was distracting and extremely difficult to resist, but through some meditative prayer and good old willpower, she was resisting. The rest of the people around her weren't in much of a need for calming, but she felt that their intentions were less than altruistic. From the most likely disease ridden whore who was showing them around to the men with guns that followed them, they had to watch their step. But Mary was having a hard time watching hers as she floated closer and closer to Pepper as they walked. |

9/9/09 "Thank you for your hospitality," said Roland, handing the woman a single plastic five credit chit. "I will take your words under advisement. Thank you for your kindness."
Roland shuddered at just what the woman meant by "whatever". While it was true that he had not known a woman's warmth in much more than a fortnight, he was quite content to let himself handle his own...nethers...if the alternative was this woman or one of the local trollops. "I'll arrange us a room," he said to the women beside him. "Pepper, why don't you and Mary and Melody get some food and drink to cool yourselves. I will join you after I get us rooms. It will save us hiking back and forth to the Nox." "Whatever you do, stay together. I sense there one of them is about, perhaps in the guise of one of the locals. Be wary. And Pepper...try to act casual...don't set anything on fire. I'll be back." |

9/9/09 Their 'guide' thanked Roland, "Only eat the cooked." She winked with delight at her coin and fluttered her skirt and ran off. CAFE The crew divideed per their Captain's suggestion. Melody, Mary and Pepper found the menu on the wall of the building. Tables and chairs are scattered about the exterior. The inside had a few tables as well, but it seemed cramped and not a good place to be watchful. The waitress seemed a bit doped up, but brought plastic bottles of water. Offered "We got red'n whitie wine. lite'n derk beer, 'en rum." She shrughed, pointed to the menu, "'en food." A couple of table are full of men in their twenties and thirties. Eight in all. They watched the women but remained talking quietly among themselves. Melody's sword wanted out. ![]() ________________________________________ ________________________________________ ________________________________________ TAVERN Up the steps and inside Roland, Barto and Clare found a simple tavern. The bartender has returned inside and stood behind his bar, along the right side, waited. At a table along the left is an obvious crew: ![]() They gave them a look, kept an eye out, but returned to their bottles and prepackaged food. They were going over some papers. The bartender introduced himself, "I'm Fortunado. You'd be Captain Lucifer of Perdition's Flame then." It wasn't a question, just informed him that he knew who they were. A small screen behind the bar had a view of the beach. "How can I serve you?" He seemed half bored and half curious. The wall behind the bar was filled with all manner of bottles of liquer. ________________________________________ ________________________________________ At the villagio: - Cafe = Melody, Mary, Pepper, - Tavern = Roland, Barto and Clare. 9/9/09 Just because she was ignoring her personally didn't mean Pepper wasn't aware of Mary. The woman kept getting closer to her. But Pepper didn't back away. A few days ago, had Mary acted like this toward her, Pepper would have been skittish, trying to avoid rather than borrow trouble. Not any more. Her anger rose with every move Mary made in her direction. Come on then, she thought. "...And Pepper...try to act casual...don't set anything on fire. I'll be back." Pepper scowled at their captain's retreating form. Had he been able to read her that easily or just guessed? Whatever, he had a point. Once they got to the cafe, she made sure she took a seat on the opposite side of the table to Mary and that there was no way the other woman could possibly reach her from there. She ignored the blackboard. And the water. It really only left her Melody and the waitress to focus on. She looked to the waitress. "I'll have beer. Light. Please." |

"I'll need three rooms," said Roland, grabbing himself a seat at the bar. "A bottle of the local firewater for me if you please." He handed over a handful of credits, enough to cover the tab. "There's a few extra in there to make sure none of us are disturbed. We've just come off a long journey and need our rest you see." "A fool's errand you're on," said Fortunado with a sick grin. "You'll never find the demon you seek here. You and your crew will die on this world before ya find him!" "Excuse me?" said Roland, his eyes narrowing and his hand inching instinctively towards a blade at his hip. "Would you mind rephrasing that?" Fortunado's eyes glowed silver and his teeth became fangs. His dark hair turned a stark white and his skin took on the pallor of the dead. "You...will...die...HERE!" Roland stepped back nearly tripping over the bar stool. His hands went for the shotgun under his coat and prepared for the demon's attack when he blinked and suddenly all was back to normal. The bar, Fortunado, the now tipped-over barstool. As quickly as the vision came it passed. "Um, sorry....I must be very tired," he replied sheepishly. |

9/11/09 Pepper sat on the other side of table from Mary... on purpose. Why did she keep avoiding me? she wondered. Doesn't she understand that I could help her get rid of some of her pain and anger? Then the waitress came to take their orders. Mary vaguely remembered Pepper order a beer of some sort, so her attention was drawn to the 30-something waitress who looked like she'd been awake all night or more, but most of all, she was so filled with sadness and worry that Mary couldn't help but be drawn to her. "I'm sorry, miss?" she asked. "Is there something wrong? Can I help you?" And as she talked, her hand started to reach out to the waitress. |

9/11/09 Pepper watched Mary clinically, then tipped her chair backward, took a poster she'd spotted earlier from the table behind her, rolled it up and then as her chair tipped back to level again, brought the rolled up paper down onto Mary's outstretched hand. The waitress skipped back a beat looking startled, but Pepper spoke to Mary first. "Bad. Bad girl. Keep this up and I'll have to put a leash and muzzle on you." There was no anger in her voice; not much inflection or emphasis at all for that matter. She finally looked to the now quite nervous waitress. "Sorry 'bout that miss," she smiled at the other woman, "my friend's got a thing for pretty young girls. We're training her out of it, and she usually behaves, but best you come to my side when you serve the drinks." The woman looked faintly disgusted, then resigned. Apparently she was used to unwanted attention. She waited until both Mary and Melody seemed done ordering then left. Pepper glowered across the table at Mary, saying nothing. Knowing the woman could likely feel it, she let her anger and annoyance do the talking for her. |
