He had stood up to his new Captain. Not really a smart move, since the man did have his pistol.

He had stated his reasons for his actions, even though he had meant what he said to the Major. He hoped that, one day, all this fighting would be over and they could all meet as equals.

'A pipe dream' he thought as he looked into the eyes of the man who could well be his killer.

He looked past him and into the eyes of Death. She only smiled, shook her head and flipped him off.

Ian never saw the fist coming his way.

"Uffffffff!!"

He doubled over in pain. Not the worst he had ever felt, thanks to LT Pickles. He didn't know if Tyler Lyndon was alive or dead. Right now, he didn't care.

Strong fingers gripped his shoulder and steadied him. He looked over at the arm and followed it to the shoulder, then to the face of his Captain.

"Apologies,"

The man whispered into his ear.

"I got crew possibly dead or dyin' and I am a little off my game. Won't happen again."

"No problem. Remind me to never tick you off for real..."

It was then that other sounds came to him. He remembered Ari's touch and shock as she jerked away only to find Darren. He knew that he had his work cut out for him with this crew.

He remembered Sergei shouting for Amber ... Amber of the nice butt ... came the thought. He hoped that his needle work would not damage that part of her body.

It was then that she flew out of the vent shaft into Sergei's arms. How the man was still standing, he didn't know. But he was.

It was good to belong to a family again.

He smiled his crooked smile, looked over at Death as she danced between and around each of the crew there, and flipped her off.

She just laughed.

"I know CPR and First Aide. I can help."

"Um... OK.." replied Darren between breaths.

He didn't really know this guy, but any type of medical help wouldn't hurt so long as it meant Ari lived. So as Darren returned to giving Ari mouth to mouth, he let the other man do whatever he needed to do. When he felt her twitch a bit and move closer to him, he knew she was close to regaining consciousness. One more breath was all it took and Darren was rewarded with Ari opening up her eyes.

"Hey there, Ari." replied Darren, smiling down at her as he looked into her eyes. "Welcome back to the land of the liv..."

Darren's words were cut off as Ari brought her mouth to his and kissed him. He was a bit surprised by it, but not taken aback as he returned her kisses. He was oblivious to the events that were happening around him during the kissing. Slowly, but gradually the sense of time came back to Darren and he was able to take his lips away from Ari's. Getting a feeling that there were eyes upon both him and Ari, Darren looked up and around at the gathered crowd.

"She's alive." replied Darren a bit nervously. "Just givin' her some mouth to mouth is all."

Ari couldn't believe she had kissed Darren and was even more flabbergasted that it had turned into an outright kissfest.

What was she thinking? Darren was crew! But she couldn't stop and it seemed that he was less than motivated to stop either. So she slid her hands along his arms and held onto his biceps and she just continued, tuning out everything that was happening around her: the chaos, shouting, and everything.

She finally took in a deep breath when Darren pulled back somewhat. She opened her eyes to see Darren looking rather sheepishly at the others. Reno was eyeing them with a most confused look on his face while he helped support Ian as he was... doubled over? Sergei was holding Amber in his arms and she looked relieved to be just there.

Then she caught sight of the Major sitting there and she startled, digging her fingers into Darren's arms. Her breath inhaled so sharply, the air seemed to stick right in her throat. She tried to move away, but her body wasn't quite in full control yet. After all, she hadn't been breathing for a bit and was a bit confuzzled.

After all, wasn't the man in front of her... crying.

She burrowed closer against Darren.

"What's... what's happening?" she mumbled. Her breathing was getting a little fast now, bordering on the edge of a panic attack. If she could get any closer to Darren, she would have to crawl inside him. "Why... is... he... here?"

It was more of a question of why the man was still breathing. She thought back to the kissing... She wanted to go back to the kissing...

Kissing Darren was much better than this. Ari would have to reflect on that plan later.

Plus what she had already done.

After all, Darren was crew, but at the moment, she didn't care.

Sergei was never so relieved as when he heard someone scrambling towards him in the vent and it turned out to be Amber. As she threw herself against him, holding on tight and shaking like a leaf, he held her as they fell to the floor. He was just so worn out after the fight, but he managed to scoot across the floor until he was up against the wall, with Amber in his lap and his arms wrapped around her like she was everything to him.

"Are you OK?" he asked frantically as he tried to look her over for further injuries. Not finding any, he held her tightly to his chest. "Thank God... Thank God..."

He kissed the top of her head and as he did, got a full nose of her scent and audibly sighed at the pleasure of it. Just a lingering trace of cinnamon. Not nearly as strong as normal for obvious reasons.

"Are you sure you're OK?" he asked her as his eyes raised to check out the others.

The major was still blubbering.

Reno had just punched Ian in the gut.

And Ari and Darren were sucking face like no tomorrow. When did the two of them get so tight? He was just so happy to see her in the land of the living again. Darren must have gotten the feeling that folks were watching because he pulled back from her.

"She's alive." "Just givin' her some mouth to mouth is all."

Sergei couldn't help but give out a low chuckle.

"Somehow, I don't see that as regular medicinal mouth to mouth," he said in a low voice that only Amber could hear. "Did you know about this? That the two of them were sucking face? How long has that been going on? Don't she have rules about stuff like this?"

He never relinquished his hold on Amber though. Although he had the fleeting thought of leaning her back and placing his own barrage of kisses on her lips. The thought of that caught him off guard and he blushed bright red.

When did that happen? When did he start having thoughts like that towards Amber?

Luckily, Ari took his attention away from his conundrum.

"What's... what's happening?" "Why... is... he... here?"

"Yeah... What are we going to do with the bastard?" he asked, even though the thoughts he was having about Amber were still very prominent in his mind.

"No problem. Remind me to never tick you off for real..."

Reno laughed a little as he sat transfixed at the lip lock Ari and Darren were experiencing.

"Don't worry, I am sure you will anyway," he said as he straightened up a little. "Crew always does."

He looked over at Sergei, who seemed to be doing the major cuddle job with Amber.

"Huh..." he muttered, totally blindsided by the evidence that there was possibly some kind of connection there too. When did his ship turn into a possible Love Boat? He bent down to Ian. "Just know that you and I? We ain't getting together, so don't get no aspirations, dong ma?"

His comedic utterings were pushed aside when he heard Ari speak.

"What's... what's happening?" "Why... is... he... here?"

Man it was good to hear her talk, even though she looked like she was heading off into crazy land. then Sergei chimed in as well.

"Yeah... What are we going to do with the bastard?"

Reno stood up fully, walked over to the Major and squatted down in front of him.

"Hmmm... What should we do with you, Major Harrigan?" Reno mused out loud. "You feeling like doing some acts of redemption? Perhaps help a man and his crew out? Seeing as you took your time to torture and nearly kill a couple of folks here, I think it is the least you can do."

He snapped his fingers in front of the Major's eyes to try to get his attention.

"So how about it?"

Major Harrigan's pain was immense, but the time for tears was over. Tears weren't going to help him now. Tears weren't going to change the fact that his beloved brother, a man he grew up with and served in the military with, was a bastard that he never knew. A monster. How could he not have known?

He heard voices all around him and although he wasn't quite coherent, he tried to focus.

"What's... what's happening?" "Why... is... he... here?"

"Yeah... What are we going to do with the bastard?"

"Hmmm... What should we do with you, Major Harrigan?" "You feeling like doing some acts of redemption? Perhaps help a man and his crew out? Seeing as you took your time to torture and nearly kill a couple of folks here, I think it is the least you can do."

Yes... He did torture those girls... Tried to hurt the strong man... God... What had he become?

Snapping of fingers brought him back into focus as he looked into the face of the Gypsy Traveler's captain.

"So how about it?"

His eyes traveled from the captain's eyes and over the inhabitants of the room. There was even one guy dressed in an Alliance maintenance uniform. In his newfound clarity, he knew these were no mere circus folks.

He was relieved to see the girl he tried to kill just a few minutes ago, awake. At least he hadn't killed anyone.

Turning back to the captain, he nodded his head in agreement.

"Of course... It is the least I could do," he said, with a defeated look on his face. "I take it that you'd like to get back to your ship?"

The captain nodded in agreement.

"It ain't gonna be easy. There's bound to be a couple dozen fine soldiers between here and there," he said softly. "We had a couple of boys killed in the med bay you know. They aren't going to let that go, no matter what I say."

He took a deep breath and stood up. He looked over at Ian and his less that standard issue dress.

"You know that isn't regulation, right?"

Uniforms? Why was he going on about uniforms?

"Just know that you and I? We ain't getting together, so don't get no aspirations, dong ma?"

He had laughed with his captain and stood to his full height of five foot six inches, a hand still on his gut, as the conversation shifted like sand in a desert. Most of it centered around the Major. He followed the flow until one word struck him like a physical blow, worse than Reno's.

torture

The word caught him.

The word held him.

He had been tortured by the best.

In the end, he had been broken and crying like a baby who's nookie was taken. Except in a lot more pain. He knew what it was like and his mind changed when it came to the Major. He really didn't want to be friends with the man anymore.

"You know that isn't regulation, right?"

Harrington was speaking to him. regulation...??

His clothes.

"Well, Maintenance isn't allowed to wear Black Leather all the time."

He paused.

Ya know, Major ... I'd rather not be friends with anyone who uses that form of conversation on non-combatants.... or at all. I think we should skip the tea. I'll respect the uniform, but never the person in it."

He turned to his Captain and ignored the Major for that point on, unless there was violence to ensue.

"What are your orders, Skipper."

"Yeah, I'm fine" she answered, nodding slightly. Wrapped in Sergei's arms, Amber's shaking slowly subsided. She was safe there. And not inclined to move at the moment. She noticed the rest of the crew had arrived, too. Well. Most of them. She noticed that the scrawny little man they had picked up... how long ago was it, now?... was no longer with them. She wondered briefly what had happened to him, but there were more important things holding her attention right now.

Darren's comment made her raise an eyebrow at him. It was clear she didn't believe that for a moment. She wasn't blind, and neither was anyone else. They were all adults here, and plenty old enough to know kissing when they saw it. Sergei's comment drew a soft snort of laughter out of her. "I had no idea. She does have rules about it. But I guess there's always an exception to every rule." Amber didn't think it had been going on for very long, all things considered. But... who knew? Everyone had their secrets.

"A better question is why is he still breathing my air and polluting my 'Verse" Amber chimed in, venom in her voice. If words could flay a person to the bone, hers would have done just that to the major. She tensed in Sergei's arms, as though she were considering getting up and correcting that problem herself since no one else seemed about to do it. She wanted to see him die slowly and painfully, preferably at her hands and Ari's.

Her eyes focused on Reno, feelings of betrayal evident in them. That hundan had nearly killed her and Ari, had refused to listen to their side of the story, had tortured them for the gods only knew how long, and Reno... their captain, the man who was supposed to look out for his crew and avenge the wrongs committed against them... was letting him live. How could she not feel betrayed by that? Here he was talking about redemption of all things, instead of making with the killing already. Redemption? Pah! That sort would never find redemption for their misdeeds, no matter what they did to try to atone for them.

Sergei was most interested in finding out how Amber was as his attention was focused completely on her. He held onto her as the shaking left her body.

"Yeah, I'm fine"

Then they heard Darren's statement that he was giving Ari mouth to mouth. He grinned at the prospect. He knew kissing when he saw it. He leaned down and whispered to Amber.

"I had no idea. She does have rules about it. But I guess there's always an exception to every rule."

Sergei shook his head.

"But I never expected to ever see her kissing a crew member. She's so strict about it. She hasn't touched a crew member as long as I have known her. Seriously. Absolutely no one."

Sergei watched as Reno went over and got the Major's attention.

"Hmmm... What should we do with you, Major Harrigan?" "You feeling like doing some acts of redemption? Perhaps help a man and his crew out? Seeing as you took your time to torture and nearly kill a couple of folks here, I think it is the least you can do."

The guy didn't seem to hear him so Reno snapped his fingers in front of the guy's face.

"So how about it?"

Redemption? What exactly was Reno after?

He looked over at Ian for a moment and saw his face harden with what looked like disgust. It was a new emotion that Sergei had witnessed from the man. His attention was drawn away when the Major spoke.

"Of course... It is the least I could do," "I take it that you'd like to get back to your ship?"

As Reno nodded in affirmation, Sergei wondered what he was up to.

"It ain't gonna be easy. There's bound to be a couple dozen fine soldiers between here and there," "We had a couple of boys killed in the med bay you know. They aren't going to let that go, no matter what I say."

Ahhh... That made sense. Reno wanted the guy to run interference for them so it would be easier to get back to the Gypsy. Sergei agreed with him. It was the least the Major could do. After that? All bets were off.

Then he was confused about the statement about Ian's dress not being regulation. What was that about? Was the man daft?

"Well, Maintenance isn't allowed to wear Black Leather all the time."

Sergei got a small smile on his face at that one. Ian Dugan was a sarcastic guy.

Ya know, Major ... I'd rather not be friends with anyone who uses that form of conversation on non-combatants.... or at all. I think we should skip the tea. I'll respect the uniform, but never the person in it."

Ahhh... Ian was getting wise to what the Major had done to the girls.

"What are your orders, Skipper."

It was in that moment that Sergei began to think that Ian might be a good addition to the crew.

But Amber had questions of her own. The look that she gave Reno was one of betrayal. She must not have understood what Reno was asking of him.

"It's alright, sweetheart," he said in a soothing voice. "Reno is just looking for a way to make our trip to the boat a little easier and go a bit quicker."

Did he just call her sweetheart???

"The statement about there being a bunch of pissed off soldiers being between us and the Gypsy? We will run across them. We need all the help we can get and if that asshole feels guilty enough to do us a solid, then I say let's use him."

He hoped she'd understand.

He stood there, waitin for him to be told what to do.

The man before him had his weapon, Ryder, tucked somewhere in his waist band. Ian had given the man control over him.

Willingly

While he waited, he looked at his new crewmates.

The Strongman, Sergei. Fast on his feet and with his hands.

The Companion, Ari, was it?? falling in love with one of her fellow crew. Or was it a matter of just now showing the love that had been there for a while.

The Tech, Darren. Ari's preferred lifesaver. He remembered Ari's hand brush his and pull away, like he was fire. The hand moved toward Darren's, like he was calm cooling water.

It had hurt, he realized.

Next was Amber, with the nice back side, permanently scarred. He could tell that she was so much more that that. Someone who, though afraid, did what need to be done.

Then there was Doc. He was the first Ian told of his deal with the Devil.

Last, to his knowledge was Reno. His new Captain. Ian felt a kindred spirit. A man who would do what he needed for his crew. His family.

A family that he was now part of.

He smiled his crooked smile and waited to be told what to do by his Captain.

Reno was happy that the Major seemed to snap out of his blubbering status. Come on... Who does that? What kind of officer loses it that completely?

One who has an immense amount of guilt.

Guilt worked for Reno. Guilt might just get them free.

"Of course... It is the least I could do," "I take it that you'd like to get back to your ship?"

"Tha's the plan."

"It ain't gonna be easy. There's bound to be a couple dozen fine soldiers between here and there," "We had a couple of boys killed in the med bay you know. They aren't going to let that go, no matter what I say."

Reno rolled his eyes. Soldiers killed on board; the med bay and a couple in the hallways. Could you think of a worse scenario? They have a huge battleship all around them filled with folks who would like to put a bullet in the brainpan of each and every one of them.

Fan. Tas. Tic.

"You know that isn't regulation, right?"

Reno's eyes narrowed at the man. Had he gone completely mad? In what universe would what Ian had on be regulation?

"Well, Maintenance isn't allowed to wear Black Leather all the time."

That got a smirk out of Reno. He liked dry humor.

"Ya know, Major ... I'd rather not be friends with anyone who uses that form of conversation on non-combatants.... or at all. I think we should skip the tea. I'll respect the uniform, but never the person in it."

Reno was one step past that. He didn't even respect the uniform anymore. Not unless it had a person in it that had a gun. Well, most likely that gun would be pointed at him, but then in that instance, he would most likely be respecting the gun.

"What are your orders, Skipper."

"I think we need to get the good gorram out of Dodge," Reno said. HE motioned for the Major to get up. "No tricks there Major, dong ma? Just get us to our ship in one piece."

He leaned back to Ian.

"I'll cover the Major as he leads us along. You watch our six and we'll keep the others in between us. We need to get to the ship asap. It'll be safer there for everyone and the girls will feel much better."

He looked at Amber who looked like she was ready to filet the major alive. Anger was good. Anger was a healthy response to what had happened to her. He cocked his head at Sergei as he whispered to her. What was happening there? They were looking way too close than they normally were.

Then he checked out Ari and Darren. He had no idea what was going on between the two of them. God only know what kind of fallout this would have if crew started getting all touchy feely. Major got to his feet and started walking down the hall.

"No monkey business, m'kay Major? I don't like monkey business" Reno he looked back at Ian as he started forward, following the Major. "Everyone else follow me. Ian's got your six. Let's get the Hell out of here."

Darren had went back to kissing Ari in hopes that it'd take her mind off the Major and prevent her from going into another meltdown. He was pretty sure the crew had seen them sucking face by now and he'd deal with the potential backlash and possible beating later. Right now he was focused on making Ari feel safe and if that meant kissing her until their lips fell off, then so be it. He didn't know how long they had been locking lips, but Darren somewhat heard the Captain say something and then the sounds of people beginning to walk away.

Breaking off the kiss-fest, Darren looked to see the rest of the crew and the Major moving down the corridor. Looking to Ari, he smiled and said, "Looks like we're goin' to be gettin' out of here. Are you willin' to walk or would you like me to carry you?"

"Yeah... What are we going to do with the bastard?"

Ari wanted to know that question too and was glad that Sergei had asked it.

"Hmmm... What should we do with you, Major Harrigan?" "You feeling like doing some acts of redemption? Perhaps help a man and his crew out? Seeing as you took your time to torture and nearly kill a couple of folks here, I think it is the least you can do." "So how about it?"

Redemption? REDEMPTION?

Ari was getting mad. Was the captain going to let the bastard go? He tortured her and Amber!

"Of course... It is the least I could do," "I take it that you'd like to get back to your ship?" "It ain't gonna be easy. There's bound to be a couple dozen fine soldiers between here and there," "We had a couple of boys killed in the med bay you know. They aren't going to let that go, no matter what I say."

Ohhh... She was getting it now. Reno was gonna make the guy help them get free. Yeah well... In that respect he did owe them. Actually he owed both her and Amber. She watched as the Major turned to Ian and said something about his uniform not being regulation. What the good gorram did that mean? Was the guy going daft? Ian seemed to have the same thought.

"Well, Maintenance isn't allowed to wear Black Leather all the time." "Ya know, Major ... I'd rather not be friends with anyone who uses that form of conversation on non-combatants.... or at all. I think we should skip the tea. I'll respect the uniform, but never the person in it."

She bristled at that comment. He respected the uniform? That was completely 180 degrees from her view. People in that uniform killed her family. She was about to say something when she felt Darren pulling her closer.

"What are your orders, Skipper."

At least he knew who he answered to now. She figured sooner or later she would have to have a talk with Ian to see where his loyalties lay. She couldn't bear someone in her family now getting hurt again due to the Alliance.

"A better question is why is he still breathing my air and polluting my 'Verse"

That was something else that Ari wanted to know too. What were they going to do once he got them back on the ship? IF he got them back to the ship? Her nerves were kicking up again, making her breath quicken.

"I think we need to get the good gorram out of Dodge," "No tricks there Major, dong ma? Just get us to our ship in one piece."

She saw him talk to Ian then. Giving him instructions as he asked.

"I'll cover the Major as he leads us along. You watch our six and we'll keep the others in between us. We need to get to the ship asap. It'll be safer there for everyone and the girls will feel much better."

Damn straight. She would feel SO much better on the Gypsy.

"No monkey business, m'kay Major? I don't like monkey business" "Everyone else follow me. Ian's got your six. Let's get the Hell out of here."

She went to nod, but her legs weren't working quite yet. It was like they weren't talking with her head quite well. She looked over at Darren with a look of fear on her face. How would she ever get back to the ship?

She was surprised when his lips found hers again, kissing her ever so gently. She paused and then returned his kisses again with fervor. Yes... Kissing was much better than dealing with what they had gotten themselves into. After a moment, when she felt like everyone was watching them, she pulled away.

Darren looked at her and gave her such a sweet smile.

"Looks like we're goin' to be gettin' out of here. Are you willin' to walk or would you like me to carry you?"

"I..." she started. "I think I will need a hand at the beginning. Still feeling confuzzled a bit."

As he picked her up and they started down the way, she kept having some inner conversation about what was happening. Not so much with the Major, but between Darren and her.

What was she thinking? He was CREW. Crew was off limits! Hadn't she learned that before?

But there was that feeling of safety he gave her. He made her feel safe. And it was different that how she felt with Reno and Sergei. They made her feel safe, but this was different.

And his lips... They were so soft and he was so gentle...

BUT HE WAS CREW!!!

God she was so confused.

Ian nodded at his instructions and looked only once at Ryder as his Captain walked away, herding the rest of his family along. Only Darren and Ari remained.

He was about to cough or something when the kissing started again but didn't have to as it stopped on its own.

Ian nodded once to the two people as they rose.

"Amber will need help too, having been shot and all, Miss Ari. You two are the last. Please keep an eye out for those in front. All a you are hurtin. I'll keep ya safe. You have my word of honor."

He followed them, janitor coveralls covered by his Black Duster, the tails of which billowed out behind him as he moved ... almost like wings, but not quite getting there. Not here at least.

They, like he, needed the Black to be free.

Ghost was with him and his eyes roved the halls and passages as they crossed them.

Death followed close behind, a smile on her too pale lips.

The Major cocked his head to the side as Ian answered his question regarding his uniform.

"Well, Maintenance isn't allowed to wear Black Leather all the time."

No... There was no leather in the maintenance uniform at all...

Ya know, Major ... I'd rather not be friends with anyone who uses that form of conversation on non-combatants.... or at all. I think we should skip the tea. I'll respect the uniform, but never the person in it."

Did he just get dismissed by a subordinate??? He was about to open his mouth when Ian continued.

"What are your orders, Skipper."

The Major's jaw set and then ticked a little with anger. Now he got it. This man was going to desert his post. Coward...

But then again, what he had done to those women was cowardly and weak. That was confirmed when the one woman spoke up.

"A better question is why is he still breathing my air and polluting my 'Verse"

Yes... He deserved that, so he kept his mouth shut. After all, these folks could put a bullet in his brainpan any time they wanted.

Then he heard the big man whisper something to her. He wished he could have heard what he said, but at this moment, if he could calm down one of the people who would like to see him riddled with holes, that would be a good thing.

Their Captain spoke then.

"I think we need to get the good gorram out of Dodge," "No tricks there Major, dong ma? Just get us to our ship in one piece."

He nodded as he stood up while he listened to Reno speak with authority. This was war for them, so anyone who was ready to go balls to the wall for his people was admirable. Even if the guy ended up ending him, which was not his favorite outcome.

"I'll cover the Major as he leads us along. You watch our six and we'll keep the others in between us. We need to get to the ship asap. It'll be safer there for everyone and the girls will feel much better."

Safer... Huh. They'll never get out of the cargo bay. He may help them now with what they want, but the others? They would not be willing to give such assistance. After all, there had been good soldiers killed since they had arrived.

"No monkey business, m'kay Major? I don't like monkey business" "Everyone else follow me. Ian's got your six. Let's get the Hell out of here."

Ian... He'll have to file that name away. If he got out of this mess, he might just track down his record and put an AWOL notice on him. Deserting his post and all...

He looked back and noticed all the lip lock that the one girl who admitted to killing his brother was getting from another man in an Alliance uniform. Another soldier possibly deserting. What the good gorram was going on here?

"Looks like we're goin' to be gettin' out of here. Are you willin' to walk or would you like me to carry you?"

"I..." "I think I will need a hand at the beginning. Still feeling confuzzled a bit."

He did feel remorseful about what he had done to the woman, even though she was the one who ended his brother. Looking at her confused face, he almost felt sorry for her. But in the end, he still hated her for what she did even though his brother was scum. After all, he was still his brother. His twin... How could anyone truly forgive something like that?

"Amber will need help too, having been shot and all, Miss Ari. You two are the last. Please keep an eye out for those in front. All a you are hurtin. I'll keep ya safe. You have my word of honor."

So the one by the big man had gotten herself shot. He couldn't see where, so it couldn't be that serious.

And word of honor? The deserting, criminal loving coward had no honor. At least by the Major's opinion.

But he began to lead them down the hall towards where their ship was kept. When he got three compartments down, he stopped because they had met with another hallway. One that was inhabited by fellow soldiers serving as guards looking to trap Reno and his band of merry men while the others searched. He wanted to yell out to them and have these folks taken away, but he had given his word. He really did owe them for his part of the torture and treatment of the women.

"There are two soldiers down the right side," he whispered. "I will get rid of them."

Without waiting for an answer from Reno, he stepped out into the corridor.

"Soldiers! I lost the fugitives, but I think they are circling around to come up behind you. Go double check and I will keep an eye out here," he commanded. "Comm me if you find them."

The two men nodded and went along their way. The Major lead them across the hall to continue their trek to the ship.

But one soldier came back, forgetting he had left his comm by his guard post. Close enough to catch a glimpse of Ian's coat billowing around the corner. The soldier narrowed his eyes at the sight.

Something wasn't right.

He called back to the other soldier and reported that he was going to check something out and that the first guy should find some backup and keep looking as they were instructed.

He also knew that if something was wrong, he would need it too, so he made that call as well. After all, the fugitives had been very crafty.
