Death's Toy Boy
|
Ian took a deep breath, held it and looked around the room, as if he were looking for someone. He nodded his head once and let out the breath. Maybe he had found who he was looking for, though no one else had entered the room, yet. Or maybe someone had that only he could see. "I was in the Alliance during the war. I got quite good at what I did... but I always knew that something was wrong with my Life's choice." He paused in thought and continued. I paid a heavy price once I realized my mistake. Three years hard labor out at the Mines on Krane's Moon. Survived that and made it to the Black. That's when I found Glory" He smiled. "There's no place I can be since I found Glory" He whispered in a sing song voice. His eyes flicked to the table near by, as if someone were sitting there, cross legged, on top of the table. "I killed a lot of people in my life. Not real proud a that. But when Sergei told me about you two and the guys in the Med Bay opened fire into the vents, I didn't count them as soldiers any more. Or men. Just animals that needed to be put down before anyone else got hurt." His voice and face grew harder as he spoke. His features stayed "chiseled" for a few seconds after he finished then softened once more to where they were before. This man may have been a soldier, once, but he was always a man. He looked at Ari once the looked away, glad that he had acted as he did, but still not proud of it. |

"You've known her longer than I have" Amber replied with a shrug, wondering herself what had gotten into Ari. Well, whatever it was it was fine by Amber as long as it made the woman happy. After what they'd been through recently, they both needed a bit of happiness in their lives. Oh, Amber understood alright. She knew perfectly well what Reno was up to... for a change. Well, okay, she had a pretty good idea. But that didn't mean she was happy about it, and it didn't mean she approved in the slightest. She did have to say she rather liked the idea of adding Ian to the crew, and not just because he'd patched her up. He seemed like good people. A bit odd, yes, but good. Sergei's voice and having his arms wrapped around her was what was keeping her calm enough she didn't launch herself at the Major... bullet hole in her butt cheek or not... rather than the words themselves. "Yeah, I know. But it doesn't mean I have to like it" she grumbled, her lips quirking in a slight smile at the term of endearment. She sighed heavily and let her head drop to rest on his shoulder. "And it doesn't change the fact that I'd rather see him skinned, gutted, and hanging by the ceiling by what little he has in the way of balls." If he put a single toe wrong, she would do her utmost to make that mental image a reality. Amber was perfectly able to walk, and it might do her some good. Give her something to focus her attention on besides coming up with new and inventive ways to cause someone a maximum amount of pain before letting them die. Still, she appreciated Ian's concern, and believed him when he said he'd keep them safe. So far, she had seen more honor from him in five minutes than she had seen in all the purplebellies she had ever met over the years... combined. She would believe Ian over any Alliance official any day. "Thanks, Ian. Much appreciated" she said by way of thanks, her face losing some of its hard edge when she flicked her eyes to him for a moment. She breathed a little easier once they were on board their own ship, the air feeling fresher and sweeter to her there than it did on the Alliance vessel. "We'll be ready on my end in five" she called back over her shoulder on her way to the cockpit already when Reno said to get the ship ready to fly, her voice sharper than usual. Yes, she was still rather irritated with Reno at the moment but mostly it was just tension from the situation as a whole. She wasn't going to properly relax until this dungheap of an Alliance vessel was nowhere on their radar. Being back in her cockpit did allow her to relax somewhat, though. Amber didn't like doing these cold starts, but she was eager to get the hell out of this place and she knew she wasn't the only one. Once in the pilot's chair, her hands moved rapidly over the console going through the start-up sequence. "Flip that row of blue switches right above my head to the 'on' position, all at once. Then move that lever in the middle of the control panel all the way up. Please, and thank you" she said, her own hands not slowing in their movements, and not stopping until the sequence was finished. She checked the row of lights that indicated whether or not the ship was ready to go. "Darren, are the engines good to go?" she said into the comm after depressing the button for the engine room. The moment he confirmed all was ready, she opened up the thrusters and got them out of there and on their merry way. |

Sergei kept in the back of the bridge as he watched Amber do her job. It never dawned on him how utterly feminine she was and she had an understated grace to her movements as she flipped the switches and what not needed to get the ship ready to leave. "We'll be ready on my end in five" Sergei was so ready to leave the Albright too. They came to do a job and they got it done. Amber and Ari were back in the fold. Now they just needed to get off the gorram ship. Having a good amount of black between them and just about any other ship was sounding so good at the moment. Some alone time would be very welcome. "Flip that row of blue switches right above my head to the 'on' position, all at once. Then move that lever in the middle of the control panel all the way up. Please, and thank you" Sergei grinned and did what she asked him to. He found it soothing, seeing her in her element. He hadn't really paid attention to how shedid her job before, but he was hyper aware of her now. "Darren, are the engines good to go?" God he hoped they were. They should be after all. Darren had been sneaking to the ship while he was undercover just to make sure that all was well and that things would be at the ready for a quick getaway. |

The Bridge Reno nodded at Ian as he ran by him up to the bridge. When he got there, Amber was in her seat and Sergei was flipping switches above her like he knew what he was doing. He'd never known Sergei to fly, so he actually hoped that he did know. He almost took a double take then when he saw the shit eating grin on Sergei's face every time he looked at Amber. What the good gorram was going on around here? Was there some kind of love potion running through the air? He had Ari and Darren kissing and now Sergei looked like a love struck teenager. And if they were pairing up? That just left him with Ian and Reno wasn't going there. "I have the worst luck..." he mumbled. Then he leaned to look over Amber's shoulder, nudging Sergei over a couple of inches with a smirk on his face alerting him to the fact that he was wise to his feelings regarding Amber. Sergei shrugged at his captain but didn't say anything. Reno rolled his eyes and went back to the task at hand. "How's it look? Darren give you an ETA?" he asked. "When we do get free, I want to set sail for Mycroft." Reno basically wanted to get as far away from Kerry and the Albright as he could, so he wanted to go to the system the furthest from Georgia. Plus it seemed like the perfect place. "Triumph's moon is hosting the Red Sun System's Carny Con. It's the perfect place for us to take shelter and we might even get a little normalcy going and book some gigs." Back to their regular routine would be exactly what the doctor ordered and Carny Con is where performers like them could go to show their acts and book dates with places looking to hire them. It was that system's version of a job fair, audition location and networking all in one. It was perfect. |

Being back on her home turf so to speak was acting like a shot of adrenaline in Amber's system. She felt more alert than she had since being taken prisoner, and she was making full use of it. She knew the energy surge wouldn't last, and that once it was over, she would pass out and be all but impossible to wake up for a good ten hours. So between now and then, she needed to set them in on a course heading and take care of anything else that needed to be done before sank into oblivion. She grinned back at Sergei, feeling warmth blossoming in the pit of her stomach. Then Reno came in and ruined the moment. Amber cast a brief look of annoyance at him when he elbowed Sergei to the side and squeezed in between them. He was probably oblivious to the look, but it made her feel a little better. "Looks fine on this end" she answered. Before she could say there had been no response from Darren yet, his voice came over the comm system and said the engines had been replaced by giant hamster wheels for the space hamsters to use. "Very funny, smartass. Now what's the real status?" she said back, suppressing a chuckle. Apparently, the energy boost also made her a little giddy. Or maybe it was the fact that she hadn't eaten in the gods only knew how long, not to mention the dehydration from the torture and blood loss from the bullet wound in her butt that was making her giddy. "Mycroft its, then. Personally, I'm just glad to be off that piece of gose purplebelly ship and back with actual people" she said. She resisted the urge to make any jokes about the name of their destination, though it did put her in mind of an old series of mystery stories from Earth-that-was. "As long as I can get a proper night's sleep, a shower, clean clothes, and food in my belly, I'll be happy" she added. Once she had the all-clear from Darren, she punched the ship into gear and they were off. Amber locked in the coordinates and set a proximity alarm to alert them to any ships or celestial bodies passing within a certain distance of them, and a different one to alert them when they were coming up on arrival and the ship needed an actual person at the helm. Landings couldn't be done on autopilot, after all. That done, she stretched and heard as much as felt her back and shoulder joints popping in the process. She stifled a yawn and checked the control panels again, making sure everything was still in order and that she hadn't forgotten anything before she made her way to a bed and sleep. |

| The Gypsy Traveler | Dec 21 2014, 12:32 AM Post #201 |

Yes, Amber slid the Gypsy Traveler effortlessly in the wake of the Advocate's ship, basically drafting it on the course away from the Albright. It worked out perfectly and after a while, they parted. The Gyspy went to hard burn and in no time, they were in the black where they were finally alone and finally free of entanglements. Reno waved Thalia and confirmed that they no longer had any bulletins out for them. Heck, if you didn't know any better, you would have never known they had any trouble at all. In other words, life was back to normal. At least as normal as the folks on the Gypsy Traveler could get. This is the end of Episode 4. OOC: Feel free to work up any asides between now and the start of the next episode. I will throw up a couple of places where you could join in, if you want. |
